We were pretty bothered when we found out Facebook had been secretly conducting psychological experiments on us through our news feeds. This latest Facebook fiasco involving the existence of a pro-dog fighting community page just takes the cake, however.
The page in question contains many bloody and disturbing photos essentially glorifying the cruel blood sport. Despite such gruesome content, according to Death & Taxes, the social network refuses to shut it down. In fact, if you try to report the page, this is the message you’ll receive:
“We reviewed your report of Game Dog Pitbull
Thank you for taking the time to report something that you feel may violate our Community Standards. Reports like yours are an important part of making Facebook a safe and welcoming environment. We reviewed the Page you reported for containing credible threat of violence and found it doesn’t violate our Community Standards.”
Take one look at the gruesome photos and it’s truly hard to understand just how they wouldn’t easily violate Facebook’s so-called “Community Standards”, especially when these are the guidelines regarding “Graphic Content”:
Facebook has long been a place where people turn to share their experiences and raise awareness about issues important to them. Sometimes, those experiences and issues involve graphic content that is of public interest or concern, such as human rights abuses or acts of terrorism. In many instances, when people share this type of content, it is to condemn it. However, graphic images shared for sadistic effect or to celebrate or glorify violence have no place on our site.
Maybe if enough people complain, Facebook will be forced to take action.
