Thanks to Alvin and the Chipmunks, Inspector Gadget, Scooby Doo, Garfield, (especially) The Smurfs, and probably many others, there’s not a beloved children’s cartoon from the 70s, 80s or 90s that is safe when it comes to money- and franchise-loving movie studios. If it’s something that we once loved or, more importantly, have still loved for so many years, then it has dollar signs all over it, and it doesn’t matter how bad the source material is butchered in transition, so long as us chumps are coughing up $12 a pop for the sake of nostalgia.
Fortunately, when it was announced that 20th Century Fox wanted to bring the Peanuts gang to the big screen for the first time ever, Paul Feig was tabbed as producer, with Steve Martino (Horton Hears a Who) directing, and it at least inspired the hope that someone who loves the Charles Schulz comic as much as we have would be good to it. Now, in the first teaser trailer for 2015’s Peanuts animated feature film, our most pressing question – just how animated is this going to be – has been answered.
And the result looks pretty darn adorable.
