As part of their ongoing commitment to never leaving well enough alone, Hollywood is giving us a fourth Jurassic Park movie, from Universal and Safety Not Guaranteed director Colin Trevorrow (whaa??). Currently scheduled for 2015, the plot supposedly involves a functioning theme park as envisioned by fictional Jurassic Park creator John Hammond in the original. Now with underwater dinosaurs! And if that wasn’t already weird enough, now there’s a rumor that John Krasinski from The Office will be playing “a dinosaur tamer.”
This is so pie style, you guys.
We’re hearing that The Office star John Krasinski is up for a role as one of the theme park workers in charge of ‘taming’ some of the dinosaurs. The role is being compared to that of Dennis Quaid’s Mike Brody in Jaws 3D.
While director Colin Trevorrow has yet to comment on the potential casting of John Krasinski, he did address some of the other rumors present in that earlier story. While the theme park will be up and running, with water elements [ie, CG, underwater dinosaurs], it is said to feature tamed dinosaurs, including a “muzzled” T-Rex. Trevorrow doesn’t exactly deny these plot points, but also warns fans that they shouldn’t believe everything they read.
He did confirm a report from April, that there will be a brand new dinosaur that hasn’t ever been seen before.
“What is my favourite dinosaur? We have a new one that’s pretty cool. I’m not going to tell you anything about it, but…It’s pretty bad ass.” [MovieWeb]
I hope when they say “new” they mean new to the movie franchise, not new like they’re just inventing “badass” dinosaurs for the movie, because I already saw Pacific Rim. Anyway, this is a lot to process. Trevorrow went from being nominated for an Independent Spirit Award to working on Jurassic Park IV in less than a year. That’s range.
I just hope the Krasinski rumor is true, because I like the idea of the movie cutting to him with a smartass smirk on his face every time someone gets eaten.
