I’ve been so excited for Martin McDonagh‘s Seven Psychopaths for so long that when ran into Sam Rockwell at a coffee shop a few months back, it was the first thing I asked him about (*crosses ‘gratuitous name drop’ off to-do list*). It stars Colin Farrell, Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell, Christopher Walken and opens October 12th, and now there’s a trailer. I’m still excited for it, but I have to admit, when a lady handed Christopher Walken some money in the first five seconds and there was a loud cash register sound effect, my first thought was “Who let the guys from MANswers edit this?”
I hope it’s just the trailer editor and not the filmmakers who are trying way too hard. The movie already has Tom Waits inexplicably holding a bunny and Gabourey Sidibe sitting on the toilet, it doesn’t need record scratches and whoopie cushions to seem quirky. The sound editing on this is like one accordion away from being a ranchero song. “People sitting in a living room? That’s great, but could it have more siren sounds?” (*explosion, swoosh sound*)
What, no star wipe? Trés restrained.
