J. Cole’s newly announced touring hiatus opens the door his Dreamville crew to begin to establish themselves in the mind of the public. Bas is first up to seize the opportunity by releasing his video for “Dopamine” on Monday, exclusively via Tidal.
The track’s one of the singles from his greatly overlooked LP, Too High to Riot, and it includes labelmate Cozz providing an assist. Both MCs use to the song to map out the trials they went through in their personal lives and careers in order to make it here to this moment, which now turns into perhaps their biggest moment yet. With Cole on break, they can’t rely on Cole to “pop in and go beast mode,” as Bas spits on the track. It all comes down to them using the spotlight to create a bigger light on what they’ve both been doing.
Next month while the label boss heads home for some much needed rest, Bas will begin to hit the road in support of Too High…, taking the album overseas for the tour’s second leg. For interested ears, Too High to Riot is still streaming in full right here. Cozz’s early January release Nothin’ Personal is available for listening as well. Check it here.
