Mick Jenkins is back with a powerful new video for “Drowning,” the second single from his upcoming album The Healing Component.
In the clip, Jenkins is an escaped slave that is left to drown in a lake in the woods. As he pensively sits in the water and waits for the people who captured him to leave, he swims upward to find a life raft. He then floats down the river, presumably towards freedom, finding others like him he can save along the way. The video ends with Jenkins getting the chance for some karmic retribution on the folks that left him for dead.
The song was produced and written in BADBADNOTGOOD’s studio and, in addition to being on Jenkins’ new album, was chosen for the Red Bull Sound Select. Coincidentally, he’s about to embark on the A Quest For Love, which is a 12-city North American tour backed by the energy drink maker.
Jenkins’ The Healing Component will be out on September 23rd. THEMpeople will handle executive production duties while other folks like Kaytranada, Sango, Monte Booker, and Cam O’bi all pitch in with additional beats for the project. Guest features include members Jenkins’ inner circle, with theMIND, Noname, Ravyn Lenae, Xavier Henry, jSTOCK, and Michael Anthony all making appearances.
As an added bonus check out Jenkins as he appears with fellow Windy City native, and one of our favorites Alex Wiley on the latter’s new track “Automatic.”
