In case you haven’t heard, VH1 is bringing back the VH1 Hip-Hop Honors show. In a slight twist from years past, they’re dedicating the entire show to the groundbreaking women of hip-hop. The announced the honorees are Queen Latifah, Salt-N-Pepa, Lil Kim and Missy Elliot. Missy Elliot, though, will be honored by a long list of people she’s influenced and some of her past collaborators, including Pharrell Williams and Timbaland.
“VH1 announced today that Missy Elliott will be honored for her work as an artist and writer/producer by a number of collaborators and artists she has influenced at VH1 HIP HOP HONORS: ALL HAIL THE QUEENS. Pharrell, Timbaland, Nelly Furtado, Remy Ma, Trina, Eve, Tweet, Keyshia Cole, Raven Symone, Monica, Fantasiaand Jazmine Sullivan and more will all honor the groundbreaking artist.”
If that seems like a grandiose tribute, Missy most certainly deserves it. She’s long been considered one of the most creative women in the industry and her numerous accolades support the argument she might be one of the most talented women in hip-hop of all time.
“The critically acclaimed, five time Grammy Award-winning producer/songwriter/singer/rapper has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. In addition to releasing innovative and acclaimed music, Missy Elliott has become synonymous with groundbreaking music videos with the video for her most recent single, “WTF (Where They From),” racking up over 40 million views on YouTube. All six of Missy Elliott’s studio albums have been RIAA platinum certified or better, making her the only female rapper to have achieved this.”
The VH1 Hip-Hop Honors: All Hail The Queens show airs next Monday, July 11, at 9pm.
