Congratulations are in order to YG. The Comp–er–Bompton rapper just inked a multi-million dollar joint venture deal with Interscope, bringing his 4Hunnid Records label to the house Jimmy Iovine built.
YG doesn’t really have any artists on the label just yet (?!), but Interscope president of urban music Joie Manda believed in the rapper’s vision enough to help secure the deal anyway. “I’ve gotten to know YG and his team over the past few years and have full belief in their vision to build a label that moves the culture,” Manda told Billboard. And that’s ditto for Interscope CEO John Janick, who lauded YG’s gift for spotting out talent. “YG has an unbelievable eye for talent and an innate understanding of what people want to hear,” said Janick. “His career as an artist proves that. I know 4Hunnid and Interscope will do great things together.”
While 4Hunnid won’t occupy any offices at Interscope, the “F*ck Donald Trump” rapper says he’ll be a very hands -on boss, explaining to Billboard, “I just oversee everybody’s marketing plan, rollout plan, the goals we trying to accomplish, the touring, all that type of sh*t.,” continuing, “I’m making sure it happen in a timely fashion.” All this while putting in work in the studio.
It’s going to be very interesting to see how all this plays out financially. As mentioned, despite his work with Sad Boy, 4Hunnid currently doesn’t officially have any artists signed to the label. “We ain’t really got none of that locked in yet but we working on it,” YG assures. “We got a couple of artists we looking at and trying to figure it out.” Yeah, hopefully because this all just seems like some powerful wishful thinking right now.
