Ava DuVernay Announces ‘A Wrinkle In Time’s’ Release Date With A Major Mannequin Challenge

One day I’d never heard of the “Mannequin Challenge,” the next, it was everywhere I looked. The viral internet video sensation of people standing as still as possible while a camera picks up the sometimes bizarre scene has brought back Destiny’s Child, stopped at The Late Late Show, and even went all the way to The White House. KnowYourMeme says it started on October 26th out of Edward H. White High School in Jacksonville, Florida but it has traveled far and wide since then.

The latest features the cast and crew of Ava DuVernay’s Disney adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time. And it’s HUGE. DuVernay tweeted they included 102 crew members and 27 departments. It truly is a feat of production, not to mention concentration. But that’s not all, turns out the director was using it to reveal the film’s release date! We’ll get to see Madeleine L’Engle’s universe come to life on April 6, 2018. They just started production earlier this month.

Young Storm Reid, who has the lead role of Meg Murry in the film, got the honor of holding the script that showed the date in the challenge video and while it didn’t give away much else, I am very excited for this one. Gugu Mbatha-Raw is playing her mother Dr. Murry and Chris Pine playing her father in the film. Levi Miller and Deric McCabe are set to play Calvin and Charles Wallace.

Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling were previously announced as playing Mrs. Which, Mrs. Whatsit, and Mrs. Who respectively. Zach Galifianakis recently joined the crew as well to play probably the perfect role for him – The Happy Medium.

But wait, there’s more! Bellamy Young, Rowan Blanchard, and Will McCormack are also in the cast with André Holland playing Principal Jenkins and Ant-Man’s Michael Peña in the role of Red.
