Word of warning: if you scare easily, it’s probably best to steer clear of this trailer.
A series of disturbing home movies take center stage in “Sinister,” an upcoming horror film that stars Ethan Hawke as an author and family man who discovers a box of supernaturally-tinged snuff films in the attic of his new home.
A newly-released red-band trailer for the fright flick, which Drew called “effective and spare and smartly built” in his SWSW review, shows the unnerving images in more graphic detail than ever before – and with almost zero dialogue and an eerie soundtrack to boot, it manages to get under the skin in a way the previous spots didn’t.
My grade for the trailer: A. When you’ve finished viewing it above, rate it for yourself at top left.
“Sinister” was directed by Scott Derrickson (“The Day the Earth Stood Still,” “The Exorcism of Emily Rose”) and produced by Jason Blum (“Paranormal Activity”). It hits theaters on October 12.
