“Hi, my name is Demian Maia. I’ll be the mixed martial artist choking you out this evening.” https://t.co/AVoXb8Rq5F

After his dominant performance at UFC on FOX 21, Demian Maia wants the welterweight belt and it’s hard to deny him that shot — even if Tyron Woodley desperately wants to. We know that new welterweight champ Woodley wants to fight Georges St-Pierre, and GSP told us he’d like to fight Woodley (or whoever holds the belt), but now the waters are muddied.
Woodley needs to get through the incredibly dangerous karate of Wonderboy Thompson, then the winner of that fight needs to shift to the deadly Brazilian jiu jitsu of Carlos Condit. Even without GSP or Robbie Lawler, the welterweight division is intriguing.
So Maia has won his last six fights in a row, with the two men that defeated him (Rory MacDonald and Jake Shields) out of the UFC. Naturally, he’s going to wait for his title shot. At 38-years-old, he’s not going to let this opportunity pass him by.

Maia famously got worked by Anderson Silva for the middleweight title back in 2010, so Maia is no stranger to title fights. Could this be his time? He looks phenomenal.
