A Viral Video Shows Exactly What Happens When A Cable Repair Truck Blocks Traffic On An Icy Road

The holidays are a time for spending Christmas with the family. Hence why Comcast‘s Xfinity cable service is pushing so hard for grandparents to appease their little darlings with the industry’s latest and greatest. This heavily advertised drive might also be why an Xfinity service truck blocked an icy neighborhood road near Indianapolis, Indian on Tuesday, according to a viral video posted by YouTuber Amish Hacker.

According to CBS affiliate WTTV, the video exploded well past 111,000 views (it currently stands at just over 126,000) after a Reddit link shot to the top of the website’s front page. Its popularity was largely due to viewers’ shared frustrations with the video’s poster, who suggested the “Comcast repair trucks parked on the road” caused several vehicles to slide off the road while trying to avoid them. The road’s snowy and icy conditions, courtesy of a major storm that struck the area early Tuesday morning, rendered the repair trucks’ precariously placed cones and warning signs useless since drivers still didn’t have enough space to slow down or stop.

Of course the real reasons so many Redditors and others were fascinated with the video were twofold: Amish Hacker’s interactions with the snarky cable repairmen he encountered, and the violent two-car collision he caught on camera near the 2:24 mark:

Multiple people were placed in danger. Even after the accident happened in front of them, they continued to work not changing any of their “safety” procedures. They showed ZERO concern for the safety of people before or after the accidents.

Stay safe out there on the roads while visiting your family over Christmas. As for the families being visited, don’t be like Comcast’s target demo.

UPDATE: In an official statement posted to Comcast’s corporate website, Technical Operations SVP Ed Marchetti said he was “concerned” by what he saw in the above video:

Our employees should always protect people and treat them with respect no matter what the situation. Safety matters most – especially in dangerous weather conditions like this.

We are actively investigating what happened when our technicians were on site to restore services during an outage and we will reach out to those who were impacted by this incident.

Within the next 24-48 hours, my team leaders will meet with our technicians across our company to use this as an example of how important it is to make everyone’s safety a priority in everything we do.

Marchetti concluded his remarks by adding “there’s no place for disrespect,” as he believes “treating people the right way is the only way to work.”
