A pro wrestler being injured and John Cena being injured are two different things. The man has a supernatural healing factor that allows him to return from career-threatening injuries like they were nothing. When he returned from hiatus at the end of 2015 and almost immediately went on the shelf to have shoulder surgery, the talking point was that he “could miss WrestleMania.” Most of us took that as, “John Cena will definitely be at WrestleMania.” Some of us thought he was going to show up in the Royal Rumble.
According to the latest news update from the WON, it looks like Cena’s going to be on the disabled list far beyond WrestleMania. Their latest prognostication says Cena won’t be back on a full-time WWE schedule until July, and if that’s true, he’ll have only spent two weeks on the active roster in the past 10 months.
Of course, they also note that the July return is as a full-time wrestler, so there’s nothing to stop Big Match John from showing up at WrestleMania and doing something. If The Rock’s there, you know Cena’s going to at least want to make an appearance.
With rumors of a possible brand split happening after WrestleMania, it’ll be interesting to see what role Cena takes. If there’s a split between Raw and Smackdown, there’s nobody more “Raw” than Cena. Does Cena get the red show and Roman Reigns get the blue? Is the town big enough for the two of them?
