Battleground was headlined by a triple threat match for the WWE Championship, featured Intercontinental and United States Championship matches and the WWE main-roster debut of former NXT Women’s Champion Bayley.

WWE Battleground 2016 Results:
– Kickoff Match: Breezango defeated The Usos. Tyler Breeze countered a Jimmy Uso splash by getting his knees up, then rolled up Jimmy for the pin.
1. Sasha Banks and Bayley defeated Charlotte and Dana Brooke. Bayley was Sasha Banks’ mystery partner. Banks won the match for her team with the Banks Statement.
2. The Wyatt Family defeated The New Day. Bray Wyatt pinned Xavier Woods after a Sister Abigail.
3. United States Championship Match: Rusev (c) defeated Zack Ryder. Rusev won by submission with The Accolade. After the match, Rusev continued the attack until Mojo Rawley made the save.
4. Sami Zayn defeated Kevin Owens. Zayn pinned Owens after two Helluva Kicks.
5. Natalya defeated Becky Lynch. Natalya won by submission with a Sharpshooter.
6. Intercontinental Championship: The Miz (c) vs. Darren Young ended in a double count-out. Maryse claimed Bob Backlund pushed her, causing The Miz to push him. Darren Young got Miz in the crossface chickenwing on the floor and the bell rang for the apparent double count-out.
7. John Cena, Enzo Amore and Big Cass defeated The Club. Cena pinned AJ Styles after an Attitude Adjustment off the second rope.
– Randy Orton was a guest on The Highlight Reel. Jericho accused Orton of ducking Lesnar, and Orton made jokes about Lesnar’s drug violations. Orton hit Jericho with an RKO.
8. WWE Championship: Dean Ambrose (c) defeated Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. The long-awaited Shield triple threat ended when Reigns took out Rollins with a spear, then Ambrose hit the Dirty Deeds on Reigns to retain. After the match, the Smackdown locker room celebrated with Ambrose.
