Triple H and NXT brought their tour across the pond last week. They stopped in at the UK’s Download Festival, where some of the most beloved WWE Superstars put on a show for rockers and metalheads — clearly Bayley’s biggest demographic:

Not only were they there to narrowly sidestep a Megadeth fan-contact high (gotta watch out for that wellness policy), but Triple H helped honor an old and dear friend — Lemmy Kilmister.

Triple H accepted the award, saying he knew Lemmy was right there with them with a Jack and Coke. He went on to say:

Lemmy used to say they did one thing, and they did it very simply: They were Motörhead, and they played rock and roll. Well we are NXT, and we wrestle, and the fact is we do it better than anybody.

WWE worked with Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister on several occasions, including multiple live performances of Triple H’s entrance themes. Triple H went from uber fanboy to good friend — so much so that he delivered the eulogy at Lemmy’s memorial service after the singer passed away last December. Triple H would go on to further pay tribute to his legendary friend at WrestleMania 32 with these custom ring boots:

Though his acceptance speech may come off as self-aggrandizing (it is Triple H, after all), getting to honor someone you loved who has passed away like that really is something special.
