Only a week after dropping the impeccable “Me And Your Mama,” Childish Gambino has given us another taste of his long-awaited third full-length Awaken, My Love in the form of “Redbone.” It’s another funky soul-driven jam that was said to be heavily influenced by Prince and interpolates the track “I’d Rather Be with You” by Bootsy’s Rubber Band.
Details about what to expect from the record are very sparse, but if the two tracks released so far are any indication, we’re certainly in for a shift from hip-hop to soul, which is certainly a treat. The track debuted exclusively on BBC Radio One early this afternoon, but you can bask in the glory above and pre-order the record and an exclusive poster here.
…Awaken, My Love! is out in just two weeks, on December 2nd via Glassnote, but some are lucky enough to have already heard the album at a special listening party in the woods back in September. That said, the album that was debuted was reportedly called Pharos, so unless Glover pulled a Kanye, there might be two albums-worth of new Gambino material floating around. It’s been a full three years since Because The Internet, so it’s quite possible that there could be more than meets the eye for this release.
