Lil Yachty is the cover star of the the summer issue of Paper.
In the new issue — appropriately focused on “Youth” — the Teenage Emotions star poses in a variety of situations that showcase his particularly youthful brand. The 19-year-old upstart rides a motorcycle, eats a handful of candy, lounges with a few boat plushies and plays with googly eyes. Check out the cover up top and a few choice shots below.
Inside the magazine, the “Peek A Boo” rapper shared that he grew up listening to a mix of all kinds of music via his father, who gave Yachty his birth name of “Miles” after famed trumpeter Miles Davis.
“When I was growing up, my dad played everything — Coldplay, Radiohead, John Mayer, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Paul McCartney, Outkast… he was all over the place,” he told the magazine.
However, when it came time to make a new album, Yachty was thinking of more recent sources. In the interview he shouts out Chris Martin, Kendrick Lamar and Childish Gambino as songwriters that he admires before drawing a direct line between one of his tracks and a critically adored musician.
“I got that vibe from Blood Orange,” he said, when discussing the prom night standout “Bring It Back.”
