Wale is back with a new album Shine, and with it he’s chosen to infuse some of the Afro-carribean sounds that have become a mainstay on pop radio as of late. It’s not the most out of the box idea, Wale is, after all, Nigerian and has dipped his toes in that water several times before. He’s never given that sound much attention on his albums though, and some fans have noticed and questioned his motives on Twitter.
One user got Wale’s attention by mentioning one of the album’s four Nigerian guest appearances, WizKid, and he was quick to clapback with some succinct truth and ether in a since-deleted tweet.
Ouch.
And the D.C. native is right, of course, as he’s worked with WizKid several times before, and years before Drake watched “One Dance” with WizKid soar to the top of the Billboard charts.
Whether Wale has implemented the afro-carribean sounds onto his albums is another argument, and exactly what Melvin used as his response.

Maybe Wale is making up for lost time. He did go to Nigera for his “God Smile” video a few years ago and present the culture of the country to the world in that form. Either way, Wale represented his roots in a big way on his album, and that’s pretty dope, even if Melvin Angula questions it.
