In the latest case of so-called “ransomware” to scare the sh*t out of Android phone users, a new porn app has the ability to secretly take your picture, lock you out of your phone, and then demand money to not humiliate you online. I know, why didn’t we think of this first, right? But as terrifying as the Adult Player app may be, the only porn enthusiasts who are actually in trouble are those who are dumb enough to download an app from somewhere other than the official Google Play store, according to CNN.
So far only 12 suckers have experienced this problem, but in case you’re the next person to fall for it and find your Android locked with the ransom message, the cybersecurity firm Zscaler has some important advice on how to circumvent the whole process of paying hush money to a-holes preying on your horniness.
To regain control of your device, Zscalser recommends rebooting in “safe mode,” and then clicking on “settings,” then “security,” then “device administrator,” and then deactivating the “Adult Player” app. From there, you must go to “settings,” then “apps” and uninstall “Adult Player.” (Via CNN)
Alexander Graham Bell would probably lose his mind if we reanimated him and showed him what has become of telephones. Mainly because he’d be like, “Wasn’t I just dead? And now I’m alive! That’s crazy.”
For more on this terrifying new invasion of privacy, anchors and porn experts Tom Storey and Briana Lane weigh in on today’s episode of The Desk.
