Weddings are too often about everyone but the bride and groom. There’s internal family squabbling over the invitation list, food options, and whether the bartenders should cut Uncle Jerry off after his third or fourth drink.
Rather than make it about himself, Todd Bachman, whose daughter Brittany got married last weekend in Ohio, did something unexpected: While walking her down the aisle, he stopped the procession and grabbed the hand of her stepfather, Todd Cendrosky, telling him, “Hey, come with me. You’ve had just as big of a part in raising this child. It’s time you and me walk our daughter down the aisle together.”
Then the tears came. The event photographer, Delia D. Blackburn, documented the entire thing on Facebook:
Grab tissues… because you will need it as you look through these pictures. Todd Bachman, father of the bride, brought his daughter to the beginning of the aisle…he stopped the procession while people were confused at his actions and he walked up to his daughter’s stepfather. Todd reached out his hand and grabbed Brittany’s stepfather and pulled him down the aisle to walk their daughter down the aisle together. NOT A DRY EYE at the ceremony..including me! Families are what we make them…make it about your kids and not your ego. Congratulations Todd Bachman on showing your kids what true love really is…love for your children. (Via)
Bachman told WKYC, “For me to thank him for all the years of helping raise OUR daughter wouldn’t be enough. There is no better way to thank somebody than to assist me walking her down the aisle.” It’s left unsaid what song played during the father-daughter dance, but I assume it was the My Two Dads theme.
