When we last checked in on Internet newsletter mogul/domestic goddess/aspiring rapper/aspiring country singer/actress Gwyneth Paltrow, she was joining the common folk on Twitter, just as the Lord ordained it. What is she up to these days, you ask? Calling out her friends for being fat-as$es, apparently.
I made this discovery while skimming this seemingly innocuous People magazine piece on comedian Ross Mathews losing 50 pounds. Mathews said it was running into Paltrow’s judgmental eye at a taping of Chelsea Lately that helped to inspire him to not be such a tubby anymore.
“We were taping a Chelsea special,” Mathews, 31, tells PEOPLE, “and she pointed at my tummy and said, ‘What’s going on here? I love you. Get it together.”
That was all the motivation needed by Mathews – who was tipping the scales at around 220 lbs. After seeing his friend Sara Rue lose 50 lbs. on Jenny Craig, he signed up in January to be the diet company’s newest spokesperson.
“I was clueless about eating healthy before,” he says. “Now I’m making good choices.”
Gwyneth Paltrow, tough lover? I’m not sold. It just so happens that being a dick can occasionally shock someone into turning their life around for the better, so there’s some nobility in it from time to time I suppose. Personally, if Gwyneth came to me and suggested I order the salad instead of the steak, I don’t think I’d react in the same way Ross Mathews did, so he’s probably a better guy than me.
