It’s hard out there for beloved children’s characters just trying to make enough money to keep themselves in a New York apartment for another day. On Thursday, Minnie Mouse and Hello Kitty were arrested after brawling over tips in Times Square. There’s no word on whether any kids were present, but I’m willing to bet that at least one child just had their childhood ruined by watching their heroes punch each other out. Or maybe I’m wrong and they thought it was awesome.
The New York Daily News reports that the fight, which had to be broken up by police and led to the arrest of the two women (b0th were charged for assault and walked out of Times Square with their cartoon heads off) isn’t as uncommon as you might think. Because the space for performers is so limited, competition is known to break out among costumed characters fighting for tourists’ money. Usually, however, the altercations don’t end with cartoon heads flying everywhere and children’s dreams being broken by the realization that like Santa, Minnie and Hello Kitty are just someone’s mom in a costume. (This, by the way, is not the first time Hello Kitty’s been in serious trouble.)
Is it just me or does Mickey look particularly sinister watching his girlfriend be walked away?
