Nikki Bella Believes Being In A Relationship With John Cena Has Made Her Career Harder

A couple weeks ago, Carmella furthered her WWE feud with Nikki Bella on Smackdown by running her down in a perhaps ill-advised promo which accused Bella of many things, including being a gold digger who is only in her spot in the company because of her long term relationship with John Cena. It might have been part of a bizarre tie-in with Total Bellas, which is currently in the midst of its first season, but it’s a set of accusations Bella has heard many times over the past few years.

In a new interview with Digital Spy, Nikki talked at length about the comments Carmella made about her on Smackdown, and whether her career has really gotten a boost as a result of being with Cena.

“We’re here in this women’s revolution, we’re in this women’s empowerment movement worldwide, and if anything women should stick up for each other and be like, ‘No, she deserves everything she has and she’s worked hard as a woman’.

“To me it’s disheartening when you have someone take away everything you done as a woman because of a man. I am with a very successful man and the crazy thing is people think that it makes my career easier.

“No, it makes my career so much harder, because no matter how hard I work I’m always going to have people take away everything I do because of John. I won’t get certain things because people will be like, ‘Oh, people are gonna think she has this because of John’ so let’s just not give it to me. I have to work so much harder being with a successful man to just prove myself.

“I could be at some event wanting to do business with people and they automatically go to John and not me because I’m with someone like that. It makes me laugh because people think it’s easy and I get everything because of him when it’s the exact opposite.”

Who knew that Nikki Bella would be the articulate voice of the patriarchal double standards inherent in our society? Well said, Nicole. It’s better than we ever would have imagined to have you back.
