Anyone who has read any of the stories written by Chvrches’ lead singer Lauren Mayberry could probably guess her stance on Donald Trump, but you’d be hard pressed to find anything that would reveal the band to be fans of Ja Rule.
The group discussed both men (among other things) in a Pitchfork segment called Over/Under. The band’s dislike of Donald Trump comes from an issue a lot closer to home than you might think for a band from Scotland. Mayberry shows herself to be an astute observer of the American political process when she urges anyone watching to “choose the other team.”
Chvrches are merely the latest artists to jump on the anti-Trump train. Everyone from Aerosmith to Miguel has taken time out of their day to bash the Republican frontrunner. The Game and Corey Taylor of Slipknot have both expressed concern over Trump’s potential presidency with the former saying a Trump win means “we are f*cked” and the latter threatening to leave the country.
We doubt any tracks from Chvrches’ sophomore album Every Open Eye will get play at a Trump rally, but if Mayberry and Co. find themselves unwittingly supporting the businessman, we have advice for how they can set things right. And be sure to check out our interview with the band on the making of their latest album.
