Sunday’s presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump started out icily, with the Democratic and Republican nominees declining to shake one another’s hand, and the tension hasn’t eased since. When asked about the leaked footage that showed him bragging about sexual assault to Billy Bush, he called it “locker room talk” and “just words,” and focused instead on sexual misconduct allegations made against Bill Clinton in the 1990s. He then changed the subject to fighting ISIS, mystifying moderators Anderson Cooper and Martha Raddatz.
Around 30 minutes into the debate, Trump navigated a discussion about fallen U.S. Army Captain Humayun Khan into much-tread waters: Clinton’s emails. The real estate mogul stated that if he ever becomes president he will commission a special investigation into the Democratic presidential nominee’s missing emails.
“It’s just awfully good that someone with the temperament of Donald Trump isn’t in charge of the law in our country,” Clinton retorted.
And with that, Trump just couldn’t resist. “Because you’d be in jail,” he replied.
The debate auditorium let out an “ooooh” typical of a high school classroom, forcing Cooper and Raddatz to hush the live audience.
The debate is still ongoing. You can find out how to stream it here.
