Stephen Colbert has had some trouble with reacting to the breaking news the past few weeks. It seems that each Friday brings a slew of breaking elements that are changing the landscape of the election and he has taped his show on Thursday night. If he waits until Monday, he’s essentially a lifetime away in media time and he can’t have that.
Luckily, the internet is around for Colbert to use and release a video when needed. And when Anthony Weiner’s name is being tossed around in connection to a matter that has dogged Hillary Clinton her entire campaign, you know he’s got to use it to the best of his ability. Basically the opposite of whatever Weiner did.
With his Friday online break, Colbert managed to find a little bit of comedy in the news without actually searching too far. Just look at the headline the New York Times used and you’ll realize that the election was always heading to this point. If Anthony Weiner didn’t somehow find his way into the election in some manner, it wouldn’t be the political theater we all expected it to be. Donald Trump is already here, but even he allows room for a few more clowns to fit into the car. Here’s hoping that John Oliver is ready to dance on Sunday night.
