Brooklyn resident Andrew Schneider calls this creation of his an iKini . . . let’s just move on. He spends up to 80 hours hand-sewing photo-voltaic panels to a custom-fitted bikini using conductive thread. The designer uses forty thin, flexible photo-voltaic panels in each bikini, and he’s planning to design a set of swim trunks which can cool a beer (ice is too mainstream).
The suit can get wet, but Schneider says it has to be completely dry before plugging in any devices. Each made-to-order bikini costs $200 and comes with four hidden pockets to store cell phones, mp3 players, and other small items, making it the premier swimwear for aficionados of mixing electrical devices, capacitors, and large bodies of water.
Also, here’s a picture of Schneider carrying a mannequin wearing his iKini around the streets of NYC. I want to follow behind him holding up a boombox blasting “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” by Starship.
