Back in September, word got out that WWE was going full (sail) steam ahead with an all-woman tournament. The idea was that it would mimic the incredibly successful Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and Cruiserweight Classic tourneys, but put their burgeoning commitment to women’s wrestling at the forefront.
Now, after a few months and several tryouts later, WWE is reportedly filling out their bracket, and the list so far looks great. Previous NXT guest competitors like Evie, Deonna Purrazzo, and Rachel Ellering are rumoured to be making their return to Full Sail. Suspected new faces include Uproxx faves Heidi Lovelace and Kimber Lee, as well as the sensational Nixon Newell out of the UK.
Much like the tag team and Cruiserweight tournaments, this could help a number of female talents build the foundation for an eventual full-time gig with WWE. People like Johnny Gargano and Tomasso Ciampa, or Cedric Alexander and Drew Gulak have been able to turn these freelance appearances into WWE contracts, and let’s be real, WWE could really use more female faces on their roster.
Though a date hasn’t been set, our sources have indicated that the women they’re looking to sign have been given an early January report date.
