John Cena never stops working. Wherever you are, wherever you’re reading this, John Cena is working right now. He’s filming the second season of American Grit at the moment, and he’s going to host SNL on Saturday. He’s in the running for lead roles in superhero blockbusters, and he’s already going to be a lead in what has the potential to be a Bridesmaids-level comedy.
So Cena’s not going to get any less busy in the future, and he’s just going to be in more and more movies. Not even WWE movies, either! Like, John Cena is just a Hollywood star at this point. This week, Amazon Studios released the above trailer for The Wall, a new military thriller where Cena co-stars with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who you may know as the star of the two Kick-Ass films, or for his turn as Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Playing a military type is nothing new for Cena, of course, as that’s pretty much all WWE Studios ever saw him as when he first began acting. But this film — the first spec script Amazon Studios has ever bought — looks seriously good. It seems like a taut, streamlined thriller where two soldiers are separated by a wall and pinned down by a madman who is toying with them. The film is directed by Doug Liman, who directed Swingers, The Bourne Identity, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and Edge of Tomorrow. So … it’s legit as hell, basically.
The film comes out on March 10, in what will likely be a limited release by Roadside Attractions.
