WWE is absolutely pulling out all the stops and holding nothing back when they travel to Saudi Arabia next week for the Greatest Royal Rumble. The event will not only feature the first-ever 50-man Royal Rumble match, but also seven title matches, and a once and future casket match between Undertaker and Rusev. (We think.)
This event is the first in a very lucrative contract with WWE and investors in Saudi Arabia, and you can tell how much the company is dedicated to making sure this event is a memorable one. Heck, they might even crown a new Universal Champion there. Why the heck not?
But they’re making the most of every moment they’ll be in Saudi Arabia next week, and from every possible angle.
On Tuesday, WWE.com announced that WWE would hold a tryout session this week in Saudi Arabia, beginning on Wednesday and lasting until Saturday. It will be the second such tryout to be held in the Middle East, after their camp in Dubai last April.
The tryout, which will be hosted at the King Abdullah Sports City Sports Hall, will give more than 25 athletes from Saudi Arabia the opportunity to showcase their abilities with the goal of being selected to begin training at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Fla. The talent pool will be comprised of elite performers with a diverse background in sports, including soccer, powerlifting, volleyball, boxing, jiujitsu, gymnastics, CrossFit and taekwondo.
The world-class tryout is part of WWE’s commitment to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, highlighted by the Greatest Royal Rumble event on Friday, April 27. General Sports Authority of Saudi Arabia Chairman, His Excellency Turki Al Sheikh, WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia invite the world to celebrate this signature event. It is the first event as part of a long-term partnership between WWE and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
WWE has held several international tryout camps over the past few years, and they generally walk away with at least one contract being offered. Don’t be surprised if this weekend or early next week brings news of the first Saudi signee to the Performance Center.
