Cody Rhodes Says A WWE Return In 2019 Is ‘Pretty Possible’

Cody Rhodes and the Young Bucks will be wrestling free agents at the end of the year, and the options for what’s next are damn near unlimited. Months before he hits the open market, the group is riding a pro wrestling hot streak, having put on arguably the most successful independent show ever and winning the NWA World Heavyweight title at ALL IN. Rhodes followed that up by capturing the NJPW United States championship from Juice Robinson on Sunday.

During his post-match press conference, the double champ opened up on what could be next, hinting at a return to WWE.

“Well my own promotion is still ROH. I know the big what-to-do is, oh, January 1 we are going to show up on WWE… Pretty possible,” Cody said, per Wrestling Inc. “But my own promotion is still ROH and I love ROH. The ROH world champion, Jay Lethal, if you recall my very first match [at Final Battle 2016]: Jay Lethal, Hammerstein Ballroom. Just beat the hell out of him. Just embarrassed him. The whole franchise act – whack, whack, whack, Cross Rhodes 1-2-3. Wouldn’t that be something?”

As for the Young Bucks, they called the prospects of jumping to WWE back in May “pretty dumb,” but plenty can change in just a few months. It could also simply be Rhodes, the Bucks and the Bullet Club stirring the pot as hype continues to build around where they land next.

Whatever happens, let’s just hope there’s no return of the “sad clown” Stardust gimmick.
