Nobody on the L.A. Clippers was happy with rookie referee Lauren Holtkamp, least of all Chris Paul. Following the team’s 105-94 loss to the Cavs, Paul went off on Holtkamp in the locker room.
“The tech that I get right there was ridiculous. I don’t care what nobody says, I don’t care what she says; that’s terrible. There’s no way that can be a tech. … That’s ridiculous. If that’s the case, this might not be for her.”
The technical Paul’s referring to happened at 10:17 of the third quarter, when he tried to inbound the ball before Holtkamp was ready. After some back and forth, Holtkamp T’d him up. The Clippers, by the way, lead the league in technical fouls with 58.
Of course, now everyone’s wondering if Paul made those comments because of her gender. Holtkamp, along with Violet Palmer, are the only two female referees in the NBA.
Outside looking in, this has nothing to do with Holtkamp being a woman and everything to do with the Clippers acting like children in a game where they were seriously outplayed.
But that’s not going to stop the internet. Take it away Twitter!
Chris Paul criticizes a male ref, and he's a cry baby. He criticizes a woman ref, and he's a sexist?? How the hell does that work?? #NBA
