All signs are pointing toward Nintendo probably releasing their next console, codenamed the Nintendo NX, later this year, but what exactly will we be playing on Nintendo’s new machine? Mario and Zelda will probably be there, but can we expect any support from companies outside of Nintendo? Well, if you believe the latest rumor, Nintendo might have a big-time third party exclusive coming their way.
According to Destructoid, Nintendo is footing the bill to bring the loooooong-in-development Beyond Good & Evil 2 to fruition as an NX exclusive in 2017. The Beyond Good & Evil news comes from an inside source with a reliable history, dropping information on Pokémon and Microsoft’s IllumiRoom project before they were officially announced. Destructoid also backed up the Beyond Good & Evil rumor with a second source.
Beyond Good & Evil 2 is probably the greatest vaporware white whale left in gaming. A sequel to the cult-classic 2003 action-adventure game, Beyond Good & Evil 2 was first unveiled by Ubisoft in 2008. Since then it’s suffered numerous delays and the departure of series-creator Michel Ancel from Ubisoft, but the company has never officially canceled the game. We don’t know much about how BG&E 2 might play at this point, but according to the rumors the game’s new full name is Beyond Good & Evil: The Prejudices of Philosophers. Might want to punch that up a bit, Nintendo.
If Nintendo is indeed funding Beyond Good & Evil 2, it wouldn’t be the first time they’ve done this sort of thing. In the past few years they’ve also stepped up to rescue games like Bayonetta 2 and Devil’s Third from development hell in exchange for exclusivity.
What do you think? Are the rumors true? And are you excited for Beyond Good & Evil 2 if they are?
