Diablo is celebrating its 20th anniversary at BlizzCon 2016, and now rumors are swirling that the original dungeon crawler will be receiving a proper sequel after its relatively disappointing 3rd outing. So what’s going on? Stay awhile, and listen… (That was a forced reference but it worked so let’s move on.)
YouTube creator Rhykker noticed that a 4-sided die was given to fans in the BlizzCon 2016 goodie bag. This led to most scratching their chins and saying a 4-sided die equals D4, which means Diablo 4. This was debunked as a misprint, and the die meant to display the date of BlizzCon, 11/4.
Here’s the video in question.
Still, gamers know that where there is smoke, there’s fire. Just look at Red Dead Redemption and its months of hints. Blizzard is known for being cute, and there are other pieces of evidence that raised the eyebrows of Diablo fans.
Diablo 3 dev David Brevik will be in attendance for the first time in years, and while some excited fans thought this was a clear sign of something going down, the reality is that he is probably there to take part in a panel on Diablo‘s 20th anniversary.
There has been a lot of speculation (and hope), but I'm not working on the Diablo franchise currently or in the near future#sorry#muchlove

Still, the 20th anniversary of one of gaming’s greatest properties deserves more than a commemorative die and an in-game pet. Perhaps there will be a new D3 expansion pack, a remaster of D2 or maybe even… a sequel?
