Square-Enix seem to be trying a somewhat different approach to hyping the upcoming Final Fantasy XV. We know a lot about how the game plays thanks to a substantial demo released earlier this year, but we don’t know a whole lot about the game’s story. Usually, Square-Enix does things the other way around, whetting players’ appetites with luxurious pre-rendered cutscenes, while keeping the gameplay largely under wraps.
Well, the somewhat neglected plot of Final Fantasy XV is getting some time in the spotlight courtesy of a new story trailer. In it, we see FF XV‘s main protagonist, Noctis, sharing an uncomfortably long hug with his kingly dad as a kid. We also get cool cars, a look at a mysterious female character, a delightfully fluffy dog, and lots of manly crying in the rain!
It will be interesting to see if the “bros cruising around in a cool car” stuff we’ve seen can manage to coexist with the more traditional, hyper-dramatic Final Fantasy fare. Will the car bros have to pull over the convertible for regular rain crying jags? Will every dramatic scene end in a fist bump? A part of me hopes the answer to both of those questions is a resounding “yes.”
