PCs, handhelds, mobile, console, indies, triple A, free-to-play — the gaming scene gets more diverse and difficult to follow by the day, but thankfully I’m here every week to guide you through what’s happening with games.
As always, I’ll rattle off five games I think you might want to check out this week. Keep in mind, these articles aren’t meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week so much as a nice rounded tasting menu. So, let’s get to it…
This Week’s Match-Three Puzzle Game

Dr. Mario: Miracle Cure (3DS, June 11)
The multicolored germ-matching fun of Dr. Mario returns! This time around, there’s also new power-ups, challenges and a Dr. Luigi mode where you have to work with tricky L-shaped pills. You’re not a true Nintendo fan unless you own Dr. Mario on a dozen different platforms, so you may as well add the 3DS to the list.
This Week’s Horror Adventure

Kholat (PC, June 9)
Kholat is a new horror game that purports to tell the real story about the mysterious Dyatlov Pass Incident. For those not familiar, in 1959, nine hikers were killed in the Ural Mountains by some sort of “unknown compelling force.” To this day, people use this real-life incident as “evidence” of Big Foot, the Abominable Snowman and other legendary monsters. Kholat looks good and moody, and it’s narrated by Sean Bean because who else would you get for a game about dying an ignominious death in the woods? Here’s the game’s Steam page.
This Week’s Japanese Dungeon Crawler
Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy (PS Vita, June 9)
Operation Abyss is a dungeon crawler featuring Japanese schoolgirl cyborgs fighting monsters in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo. In other words, pretty standard fare by Japanese gaming standards. This one has been getting some pretty solid reviews, so you might want to check it out if you’re looking to dust off the ol’ Vita.
This Week’s MONSTER JAM Game
Monster Jam Battlegrounds (PC, June 10)
Monster Jam! Monster Jam! MOOOONSTER JAM! Monster Jam Battlegrounds is basically a Trials game with monster trucks, which is actually a pretty solid concept. Buy it this Wednesday! Wednesday! WEDNESDAAAAY! Here’s the game’s Steam page.
Pick of the Week

LEGO Jurassic World (PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, PS Vita & Wii U, June 12)
Let’s be honest, you’ll be busy watching Jurassic World this Friday, but just in case you don’t get in line early enough, you can always amuse yourself with LEGO Jurassic World. Also, remember, this game actually covers the entire Jurassic Park series. LEGO Jeff Goldblum! How can you say no to that?
A so-so week with the video game industry focused on E3 next week. If nothing this week tickles your fancy, you could always hit up Massive Chalice and Heroes of the Storm, which came out last week. Any games you’re itching to get your hands on that I failed to mention? Hit the comments and let the world know.
