Consoles, PCs, handhelds, Facebook, smartphones — the world of gaming is becoming increasingly confusing and fragmented, but don’t worry, we’re here to simplify things for you. Each week I’ll rattle off five games I think you might want to check out this week. Keep in mind, these articles aren’t meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week so much as a nice rounded tasting menu. So, let’s get to it…
This Week’s Anime Game
One Piece: Unlimited World Red (PS3, PS Vita & Wii U, July 8th)
I don’t recommend too many licensed anime games, because most of them aren’t very good, but the One Piece games are generally pretty solid RPG/Brawlers. One Piece: Unlimited World Red in particular has been picking up some decent reviews, so it might be worth a spin.
This Week’s Retro-Styled Horror Game
Claire (PC, July 7th)
Miss classic Silent Hill? Well, Claire is basically Silent Hill done in a retro 8/16-bit style. As the titular Claire, you explore a nightmare filled world with flashlights and lighters being your only weapon against the growing darkness. Looks like good creepy fun. Here’s Claire’s Steam page.
This Week’s 2D Brawler
Super Comboman (PC, July 11th)
Super Comboman is exactly what it sounds like — it’s about a man who’s super at combos. Super Comboman isn’t quite as cool as some other brawler protagonists, sporting a mullet, pink shirt and weaponized fanny pack as he does, but his game looks entertaining. Here’s Super Comboman’s Steam page.
This Week’s Prison Sim
The Escapists (PC, July 9th)
Get ready to go to prison! The Escapists is about escaping from jail, but it’s more than that — The Escapists is also a full prison life sim, and in order to get to that escape you’re going to have to survive life in the big house.
Pick of the Week
The Wolf Among Us: Episode 5 – Cry Wolf (PC, Mac Xbox 360 & PS3, July 8th)
Warning! The trailer above contains some spoilers!
Here we are, the big finale to Telltale’s Fables series The Wolf Among Us. There’s sure to be twists and revelations a-plenty! Will the series end on a bleak note, or will be get a glimmer of lightness at the end? We’ll soon have the answer.
An indie-riffic week. Any games you’re itching to get your hands on that I failed to mention? Hit the comments and let the world know.
