LEGO Dimensions, the new “toys to life” game that lets you scan in real LEGO sets, is looking better every time I see it. Honestly, I’ve never been a huge fan of the licensed LEGO games, nor am I into Skylanders, Nintendo’s Amiibo, or anything else where you have to scan in plastic toys to unlock content. And yet, LEGO Dimensions just looks so wildly varied and fun, I can’t help but get a little excited.
The latest LEGO Dimensions trailer introduces us to the LEGO Multiverse and some of the Adventure Worlds you’ll get to explore in the game. There are 14 total worlds based on different licenses available, and in this trailer we get a look at worlds based on DC Comics, Lord of the Rings, The Lego Movie, The Simpsons, and…The Wizard of Oz? Sure, why not?
A lot of these toy-scanning games tend to cut corners with their production since they figure kids won’t notice, but this game is looking as good or better than any past LEGO game. What do you folks think? Are you planning to pick up LEGO Dimensions, or perhaps buy it as a self-serving “gift” for a youngster in your life?
