It seems hard to believe, but the release date for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has almost snuck up on us, and Konami is looking to keep hype levels high with an all-new trailer.
Unlike what was shown at E3, I don’t believe this trailer was directed by Hideo Kojima, so it’s definitely missing some of that crazy Metal Gear swagger. That said, it is packed with a lot of new footage. Almost a little too much new footage. I’m not really sure what’s going on in this trailer, but it feels like it gives away some fairly major stuff. Maybe Konami forced the guy who checks for spoilers to quit.
This trailer’s “end of an era” theme feels a bit on the nose, given how unsure the future of Konami and the Metal Gear Solid franchise is right now, but if this is the end, it looks like we’re going out with a bang. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain arrives Sept. 1.
