As with any nerd-favored media property, a lot of fan theories, myths, and stories have attached themselves to the Super Mario Bros. franchise over the years. Was Super Mario Bros. 3 all an incredibly elaborate stage play? Does Mario bash blocks with his head, or is he hitting them with his fist? And who the hell is Bowser, Jr.’s mom, anyways? That poor kid deserves to know.
Nintendo is usually very tight-lipped about this kind of stuff, so fans have had to come to their own conclusions, but in honor of the 30th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., Shigeru Miyamoto is finally opening up and answering some of our most lava hot questions. Well, sort of. Nintendo apparently only allowed Miyamoto to nod “yes” or “no” to the questions, but still, it’s nice to have some confirmation on some of this stuff.
Miyamoto is Bowser, Jr.’s mom? I’ll admit, I didn’t see that little twist coming. Of course, like most fans, I’m never satisfied and want more, more, more! Can you really jump over the flag pole? Will Centaur Mario ever make his official debut? Don’t make me wait until Mario’s 50th anniversary for more answers, Miyamoto!
Oh, and If that whet your appetite for some Super Mario Bros. fun, the pretty darn great Super Mario Maker comes out September 11!
