There isn’t always a lot of love in Super Mario Maker. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great game, but most people use it to make diabolical levels designed to boggle your mind and cripple your thumbs. If a Mario Maker level does have a message, it’s usually kind of dark one, like this exploration of depression. But not everything is bleak in the Mushroom Kingdom! One guy used the game for a much more uplifting purpose.
YouTuber Shane created a Mario Maker level that doubled as a pixelated proposal to his girlfriend Pam. Things build slowly — initially it looks like any other level — but eventually Mario passes by the words “Pam Will You Marry Me?” written out in bricks. No spoilers on what her response is, but don’t worry too much – Shane’s princess is not in another castle. Check out the video above to give your heart platforming palpitations.
If you want to play Shane’s level for yourself, the level code is 7A61-0000-0245-8DE8. You can edit other people’s Super Mario Maker levels, so if you’ve got some proposing of your own to do, you can just swap out the name. Or if you’re already married, you can just use it to “propose” your spouse take out the garbage. It’s multi-purpose!
