The Last Of Us is one of the more memorable gaming experiences in the past few years. Everything about it should be a recipe for disaster in terms of tired story elements — post-apocalyptic setting, zombie-like enemies — but Naughty Dog knocked it out of the park thanks to great characters and a story that kept players invested. It was popular enough to warrant a remastered edition on Playstation 4 and also some single player DLC, all which is odd in the era of multiplayer games and Call of Duty.
Pretty much it was guaranteed to get a sequel — with Nolan North spilling some beans back in the summer — and now we officially know that one is on the way thanks to Playstation Experience. Naughty Dog announced the sequel earlier, showing a trailer that picks up with Ellie and Joel on the road and still surviving after the events of the first game. No spoilers for those who never played or never finished the game, but there’s plenty of drama to dive into stemming from the conclusion.
We won’t be playing the game for quite a long time, but we do know who we’ll be playing as in the sequel thanks to creative director Neil Druckmann according to Kotaku:
Joel was the star in the first, Ellie is the star in this one,” said Druckmann. “Ellie plays differently from Joel.”
Should be an interesting change in gameplay, keeping it fresh enough for old gamers and a new experience for those who foolishly pick up the sequel before the original game. Still, good to know a sequel is on the way. Just one of the many pleasantries out of Playstation Experience.
