Nintendo Unveiled ‘The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD’ And Confirmed ‘Zelda Wii U’ For 2016

Nintendo just held their first Nintendo Direct presentation since the untimely passing of their former president Satoru Iwata, and it was packed with goodies for loyal Zelda fans. 2016 will mark the 30th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, and Nintendo is planning the release of a slate of Zelda titles.

First up, the Gamecube/Wii title The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will be receiving an HD remastering. While The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD still, mostly, looks like a Wii game, it will be bumped up to HD and feature cleaned-up textures and Amiibo support. You can check out a trailer above.

Next, Nintendo briefly reconfirmed that the next new Zelda game is still set to arrive on the Wii U in 2016. They also showed a brief clip of The Legend of Zelda Wii U, and the game was looking even prettier than when we last saw it.

Finally, in another fun tidbit, it was confirmed that a female version of Link named “Linkle” will be coming to the 3DS version of Hyrule Warriors. Fans have been madly speculating/hoping for a female Link for a while, so it’s nice to see Nintendo actually pull the trigger on this character.

So, what do you Zelda fans think of the announcements? Obviously Zelda Wii U remains the big excitement, but I’m also pretty hyped for Twilight Princess HD. I’ve always thought Twilight Princess was a bit unfairly maligned, so I’m glad to see it’s getting a second shake.
