Based on a true story.
Yesterday we learned that Nick Schenk (the writer of Gran Torino and some intriguing thing called The Best of Dr. Sphincter) had been hired to work on the RoboCop screenplay. Now we’ve heard the most recent rumor about who MGM and director José Padilha may be considering for the role. The previous names being thrown around were Michael Fassbender and Chris Pine, but now the rumor is singling out an actor who’s older, Oscar-winning, and might throw a phone at punks after telling them to freeze: Russell Crowe.
The source here is a tweet from Variety’s Jeff Sneider, who said, “Sure, Russell Crowe, MIGHT star in Aronofsky’s NOAH… but do you know what else he MIGHT star in? Three words: Ro. Bo. Cop.” [/film]
And here’s the tweet in question:
I didn’t add that “fightin’ round the world” Russell Crowe. He just shows up on his own sometimes.
