We enjoyed the first trailer and first clip from Elysium, but the extended trailer and one of the two clips below has completely sold me on this. Just kidding. I was already sold on Elysium when I heard District 9 writer/director Neill Blomkamp was making it and Sharlto Copley would be flipping cars telekinetically. SHUT UP AND TAKE MY RAND!
The extended trailer includes the footage from the first trailer, but then introduces us to Matt Damon’s exploding bullets and shows more footage of the droids and rich bastards he’s fighting to help a sick kid gain access to basic healthcare. One of those rich bastards is Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster), a role which was initially written for a man. Producer Simon Kinberg suggested Foster for the part, and Blomkamp tells EW he jumped at the casting opportunity. I can’t imagine anyone else in the part. Is there any icey bureaucrat in a power suit Jodie Foster won’t play? I don’t want to live in that world.
Elysium opens August 9th.
Here are two clips. The second one gives us another look at a droid being taken down by Matt Damon’s exploding bullets.
