Legendary Pictures just dropped the first trailer for Godzilla, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass, Avengers: Age Of Ultron) as a soldier, Elizabeth Olsen (Avengers: Age Of Ultron) as his wife, and Bryan Cranston (the danger) as a scientist. I want to bathe in that sentence until I completely forget the Roland Emmerich version. We can bathe in sentences now. Godzilla is real and words are liquid. That’s just science.
Anyway, director Gareth Edwards spoke to USA Today about Godzilla, which is releasing during the 60th anniversary of the titular monster. He said he wanted to treat the great beast like a force of nature and not humanize him. “To me, he’s like a force of nature, like the wrath of God or vengeance for the way we’ve behaved,” he said. “I’ve just got a secret fantasy — well, it’s not very secret anymore — about living in a world where there’s fantastical things like giant creatures and what it would really be like and trying to take it seriously. And there’s no bigger or better icon than Godzilla.”
Between the director’s attitude, and the footage below, I’d totally subscribe to his newsletter.
Godzilla opens May 16th, 2014.
