We grew up seeing cartoons and commercials in which an opera singer shatters glass with her voice. It’s such a common trope in TV and movies that it has become a sort of shorthand for any comedically awful sound.

But is it actually possible? Can the human voice really shatter a wine glass without amplification? And is it discordant sound that creates the effect or something else?

In this latest episode of The Truth, we asked vocal coach Jaime Vendera if shattering glass with your voice was really possible and he did his best to give us definitive proof of his position on the matter.
