Inverurie, Scotland‘s Rajpoot Indian Restaurant is one of the better-rated Indian restaurants in that Aberdeenshire town. We’re sure the service is good and the jalfrezi is straight flames, but we doubt a meal there is worth over £1 million. But that’s exactly what one anonymous diner paid for a three-course meal when he had a momentary lapse in focus while leaving a tip.
According to the Evening Express, the diner accidentally became the star of an It Could Happen To You remake when he was paying for his meal using a card reader. He entered the tip for the £100 meal in himself and somehow wasn’t alarmed when the machine asked restaurant owner Adbul Hamid to call his bank for confirmation.
“When he came to pay I gave him the card machine and he asked to put in the amount himself but it didn’t go through,” Hamid told the Express. “I then had to phone the bank for him and I answered all of the questions and they then gave me the confirmation code. At this time he still had the card machine so I never saw the amount he had typed in.”
To Hamid’s credit, he immediately informed the customer of his mistake once he took the reader back from him.
“I just said ‘Oh my god what’s happened? What have you done my friend?’,” he said. “I looked at the receipt and then he looked at it and he just said ‘Oh my.’”
Ultimately, the customer called his bank to reverse the £1.3 million charge (which comes out to 1.7 million Freedoms ), making the eventual Nic Cage movie much shorter.
