Captain America Is Coming Home To Brooklyn As A Statue

Captain America busted onto the comic book scene in 1941 by punching out Hitler. Now that’s an entrance. Since then, Steve Rogers went from being the ‘kid from Brooklyn’ to a multi-generational money-making machine for Marvel and, now, Disney. To Celebrate Cap’s 75th anniversary, Marvel is unveiling a 13-foot-tall, one-ton bronze statue of the hero at this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego. Captain America will be cast in an iconic pose holding his shield above his head. Paul Gitter, VP of selling us sh*t related to Marvel over at Disney, wanted to highlight the shield, noting, “Captain America’s signature shield also takes prominence, paying homage to his heroism, indestructible power and determination.” Maybe Gitter missed the meeting over at Marvel about Cap’s past.

The Cap Statue will make its way from San Diego to Brooklyn over the summer, allowing fans to take part in the hero’s journey (sorry). If Cap isn’t coming to a town near you, you’ll be able to follow along on Marvel’s social media outlets as well. If that still isn’t enough, the designers of the statue will be offering limited purchases of mini-Cap statues for your home. Ol’ Captain America will look mighty fine standing heroically next to your home computer.

The whole affair will end in Brooklyn on August 10 in Prospect Park. There will be an unveiling ceremony with the epitaph “I’m just a kid from Brooklyn” emblazoned on the statue’s base.

Now that’s product placement.
