With David Letterman saying goodbye to Late Show later this month, all sorts of folks are coming out of the woodwork to pay tribute to the late night legend. While Dave Matthews didn’t remove a dress for the host, a la Tina Fey, his band did debut a new song while performing an extended set for the show.
The concert was live streamed on CBS’s website, and featured a few of the classic cuts Dave Matthews Band is known for. However, the group also threw in the new song “Black and Bluebird” to mark the occasion of its final Late Show appearance.
Letterman gave DMB its first big television appearance way back on February 24, 1995, and they ended up performing on the show 13 times total. So perhaps it’s not surprising that Matthews and his band were asked to close out the “Legends on Letterman” series that CBS has been doing to send the host off.
Dave Matthews Band is going on a huge tour this summer, starting May 13 in Austin, Texas. Letterman will be spending the summer in retirement, where he can throw watermelons off a roof simply for his own amusement. Matthews and Co.’s final appearance on the show will air Friday night.
